3/15/2024 0 Comments Gnu octave vs matlabOctave is a drop-in replacement for the MATLAB language. There are two main issues.įirst and foremost is the matter of compatibility. AutoCAD is the only other program I use and I learned that on my own time. At the moment I have no clue what "additional" services Matlab provides compared to Octave on specifically what I'm using it for. Would MatLab be better for this? Is it worth translating the Octave code into Matlab and learning Matlab instead? I plan to go to graduate school for either Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering or Chemistry for a PhD for some background info (still have a lot of time before that though). We continue to use Octave to take the data, interpret it, and use Octave's plotting system. We have a code that was made about 5 years ago using Octave. txt file as a matrix (20-50 columns and lots and lots of row - Like 100+ days with data points at 5 second intervals). We have a homemade instrument that, for simplicity sake, receives data via a detector signal. I'm currently learning Octave for research purposes, but the online help for Octave is very cryptical or just not pertaining what I need to do (maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?) Our university has MatLab and access to any programs I need/want. Just asked a question earlier and it hit me that the support for Matlab seems to be much more broader and widely used than Octave.
